Tournament Structure for the Valspar Championship
ღ The Valspar Championship is a standard stroke play tournament that takes place annually in Tampa, Florida. Spread over four days, there is a cut midway through the tournament after day two has finished.
At this point, around half of the field are eliminated from the competition leaving the remainers – those that have made the cut – to play out the remaining two days of play. By Sunday, the player with the lowest below-par score will be on top of the leaderboard and will be declared the winner.
Should more than one player remain tied after play has finished, a sudden death three-hole shootout will be staged to crown the victor.
This famous old course, which makes up another leg of the Florida Swing, has a world-famous final three holes that are known in golf as The Snake Pit:𒅌 a scary-looking, snake-shaped bronze statue that ‘welcomes’ players to this part of the tournament. This climax on the course is ranked in the top 5 of finishing holes on the .

The tournament was created in 2000 and was, at the time, known as the Tampa Bay Classic. It was originally planned as an alternate event taking place in mid-to-late autumn, adjacent to the 2000 Presidents Cup and during the same week as the WGC American Express Championship in 2002.

Normal service was resumed in 2003, and for the following three seasons, the event, then sponsored by The Chrysler Corporation, had a slot in the calendar in late October before the Tour Championship.
In 2007, the event was moved to March, bumping the Players Championship☂ to mid-May. After numerous sponsors over the years, Valspar Corporation signed a four-year deal in September 2013 to become title sponsor of the event, and remain the main sponsors to this day.
